How do we change habits? This clearly comes down to mind-set and motivation, but at times it’s hard to change something you’ve done for a life-time. Some habits are just your auto-pilot kicking in and you’re not fully present to even realise you’re doing it.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” — Aristotle
8 good habits to have are listed below to get you started…
Eating healthy – having a balanced diet stimulates your brain and life-energy levels, enhances good decision making, and improves your mood and happiness. Meat, fish, vegetables, nuts: are good. Chips, sweet things, fizzy drinks: not so great.
“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn
Doing regular exercise – three to four times a week is recommended. Exercise boosts your confidence and energy levels. It also relieves stress levels and makes you a calmer person overall.

Have morning and evening routines – to help leverage the brain and energy, or de-stress the brain and relieve any tension.
Meditation – to relax and have a controlled wellbeing. It helps to develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and a calm seeing of the true nature of things.
“The thing about meditation is: you become more and more you.” - David Lynch
Self-development through learning i.e. reading books, learning through additional education, on-line courses, listening to podcasts, to name a few. Improve self-growth to help you overcome challenges in life. Looking for solutions not problems by educating yourself will bring confidence and self-belief.
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”- Benjamin Franklin
Live a de-cluttered life – busy areas nurtures busy brains and reduces productivity, focus and creativity to make things happen. We’re not just talking about material things like clothes, possessions, bedding and cookbooks: these you can just give away or throw directly in the trash to create white space in your life. Don’t have or do things you don’t need or want. Don’t spend time with toxic people if they create negativity. Focus on one goal at a time, not an entire to-do list. Spend less time on social media; your life is probably busy enough without reading everyone elses!
“The first step in crafting the life you want is to get rid of everything you don’t.” – Joshua Becker
Journaling – writing active thoughts daily helps you align to goals and aspirations, but equally helps you to be grateful for what you have in life. Acknowledging past activities/emotions helps you define a future pathway too. Being present grounds you as a person, appreciating who you are with and what you have.
“[Journaling] is like whispering to one’s self and listening at the same time.” - Mina Murray in her journal in Dracula, by Bram Stoker
Go to sleep at a decent time – sleep helps us consolidate memories, process information in the background, and strengthen our energy levels for the challenges ahead.
