Are you in a position whereby your recruitment and onboarding process is a little disjointed, or you make an Offer to your ideal candidate but lose them to another company?
Follow our 10 steps to Hire Successfully below:
- Clarity of the job and person specification.
2. Research the salary banding within your market…can you afford your ideal person.
3. Act fast, competitive markets are very fluid. Book interviews immediately.
4. Give confidence of your plans and vision. People like security. People are three times more likely to prioritise security over salary.
5. Flexible working can attract your ideal person. You can’t move your office, but can the ideal person work remotely, are they needed 100% in the office.
6. Ensure you have a structured recruitment, interviewing and on-boarding process. The candidate experience is vital to their opinion on your company and its professionalism.
7. Ensure you have specific interview questions to ask all interviewees, keeping the interview concise and consistent allowing you to compare accurately rather than gut feeling.
8. 40% of hiring managers either have no interview training or are poor interviewers – so if you’re not entirely confident, make sure you have another member of staff or someone you trust with you, making the interview less formal.
9. If you are interviewing a few people and time is delayed between each, ensure you are aware of their interview activity. You may be able to improve the timeline and reduce dropouts.
10. On Offer, ensure you immediately send Offer Letters and continue to speak to the new recruit. Send their Contract of Employment also and encourage any questions. Continuous engagement gives you confidence that they will be with you on their start date. Don’t forget to put together an induction guide/pack, again this indicates you are well organised and professional.
