Poor Mental Health at Work!
Recruit and retain your team… Here below are some top tips and ideas..
Did you know…
The cost of replacing a member of staff is £30,614 on average and it also takes 28 weeks for a worker to get up to speed?
It is important to start off on the right footing, this needs to be done with an effective induction.
- Before the first day, ensure that the new employee will have all the required equipment on the first day.
- Send out a welcome letter with parking details and who to report to, include details about any onsite lunch/tea facilities. Simple things like knowing to take your own mug can make a big difference on that first day.
- Have a defined induction schedule with time for feedback from the employee, this provides a chance to help with any difficulties they may and allow the employer a chance to review.
Ways to retain staff
- Recruiting the right people at the start for the right position will make it more likely that staff will stay in the role
- Being competitive in salary and benefits – benchmark against similar employers to determine this
- Having a clear career path for those that want one, but also allowing people to stay in current role without progression if that is what they want
- Providing training opportunities will help employees stay in a position
Ensure that the job is clearly defined and tailor to the team, it may be necessary in some roles to ensure “unpleasant” tasks are shared
- Being flexible and able to respond to work-life balance issues
- Have a clear policy of employee engagement and platform for employees to express themselves
