When You Accidently Throw A Cat Amongst The Pigeons
Two weeks in, you realise you’ve hired the wrong person. Knowing you’re going to have to ‘let them go’ and start the whole process again, you worry about the money you wasted on recruitment and their salary.
The money you can get back. It may take time, but you’ll survive. What you might not survive, though, is the other non-monetary damage to your business.
The Effect Of Poor Recruitment On Your Team.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. If a new employee is wrong, it’ll be because of their attitude and fit with your team. It won’t be due to their lack of skills.
The flip side of this is that your team is likely to be as unhappy with your new recruit as you are, and that means real trouble for your business. Morale has been lowered & therefore productivity has taken a knock too. Nothing’s getting done and all eyes are on you to deal with it. Of course, soon you plan to give the new person their marching orders and start anew. Just remember your team won’t be quite so confident in your abilities as a leader as they were before. You’re going to have to work hard to win back their respect.
The Effect Of Poor Recruitment On Your Customers.
You don’t (hopefully) operate in a vacuum. The reason you are so busy and need extra staff is that you have lots of customers to serve. If productivity is low you’re going to miss your deadlines. Your customers will become more and more unhappy and your team will have to deal with the increased pressure of dealing with dissatisfied customers. And if your new employee happens to be in customer service, then – well, let’s just say you need to get them out of there, and fast.
Remember the famous law of sales – ‘it’s easier to keep an existing customer than win a new one’. We think, ‘unless you have the wrong person dealing with that customer’, needs to be added. Then it’s pretty easy to lose them and winning new business is your only choice as once your customers know what you’re like to deal with, they’re never buying from you again!
Get It Right First Time.
Recruitment is part of business, and once you have the skills to recruit successfully, you’ll be able to apply them again and again as your business grows. The guide not only tells you exactly what you should be doing but also what to avoid.
